Rebuttal QA

Phrases That Lose Stripe Chargeback Rebuttals

You can lose a winnable dispute when your reply includes phrasing that bank analysts read as an admission of fault.

1. Unprocessed Refund Promises

Don't write that you offered or promised a refund until the credit has settled on the card. The issuer reads it as proof you owe the cardholder money, and you pay the dispute fee on top.

2. Admitting Descriptor Confusion or Bugs

Write 'our billing descriptor showed our old brand' or 'the cancel button threw an error' and you hand the win to the issuer. If a bug on your side caused the charge, accept the dispute instead of contesting it.

Questions

Why does mentioning an unissued refund offer lose the dispute?

Bank analysts treat an unfulfilled promise of credit as confirmation of the cardholder's claim and close the case for the cardholder.
